Shipyard Contract awarded to TCI
TCI has won the tender to fit out the offices at Appledore Shipyard for Babcock International, a contract worth more than £140,000.
Over recent months the company has also made numerous successful bids for projects including the athletes' villages for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games.
However, Adrian Sealey, founder and managing director of TCI, is happy that the company's new Appledore contract is so close to home.
He said: "Naturally, working on the Olympics has been valuable to the business but it's lovely to be working in North Devon. We are completely renovating the Babcock offices that have hardly been touched for 20 or 30 years. We're doing the work in three phases over the next two months to keep disruption to the people working there as slight as possible. We're also working with a Primary Care Trust in Suffolk which is miles away - but it's profitable business and we're delighted to have it."
Adrian puts the company's success down to several factors. "Even with our move last year into new purpose-built premises, our overheads are still much lower than many of our competitors. That means our pricing can be very sharp," he said.
"Even more important, though, we are very focused on what our customers need, and make sure we provide the very best service levels we can - almost all our work comes through word-of-mouth referrals."
When the company started out in 2006, Adrian approached Government-funded service business advice service Business Link for support.
Adrian said: "It's great to have the reassurance of their expertise on tap. They're giving us a lot of the confidence you need to keep going strongly in a tough economy."
Business Link adviser Lisa Salisbury added: "The staff at TCI are incredibly committed and hard-working people. I'm certain that if they stay true to their strategy they'll keep going strongly no matter what the future has in store."
